Running my first Photography & Videography Workshop in London, Ontario

On December 16, 2023, Scotty and I hosted a photo and video workshop at our studio, Cider Haus.

It was our first workshop together and our first at the studio. And it was awesome!

First off, hosting a workshop in a new studio is nerve-racking. You wonder if you’ll get enough attendees, if the models will show up, can we provide enough value, and if we missed anything like enough seats or drinks. There was a lot of little items we had to get in order to host properly that I didn’t realize until we got into it.

But, at the end of it all, it worked out well and all the attendees had a great time. We provided 5 models with 3 scenes. A wedding boudoir, an edgy Christmas couple, and an outdoor engagement/xmas themed walk around couple.

I gave an intro to video basics and my thought process on capturing short form content as we were shooting each scene, but in retrospect, it makes sense to have an entire day for just video as we ran out of time and I’ll be creating a video basics video covering the things I wanted to teach everyone that day.

For me, the value in a workshop is getting content you can use for your portfolio (in this case it was geared towards those wanting to shoot weddings, couples or boudoir), but also learning as you shoot as well as meeting new creative friends.

Oftentimes, the photography/videography business can be solo endeavours, so meeting others trying to grow a creative business of their own is so needed. To be able to learn from others, bounce ideas or just to make friends in order to keep us motivated — it’s important.

Here’s a little highlight of the day and thanks so much to all our vendors and attendees! Until the next one. :)
