Antarctica Lifestyle Photoshoot for HX Expeditions
When my friend, Dan, asked if I’d be interested in shooting marketing content for their (HX Expeditions) cruise to Antarctica, I had a lot of mixed emotions.
On one hand, it’s super exciting and a chance of a lifetime to not only get a free trip to see Antarctica, but to get paid to do so!
On the other, being a fairly new dad, it seemed a bit risky with all the travel and crossing Drake’s Passage. Also, I have a fear of the idea of being out in open seas let alone some of the roughest waters.
BUT, with the coaxing of Dan and my wife — I went for it!
And I’m so I did! It was a hell of a journey getting down there. From Toronto to Miami to Buenos Aires to Ushuaia to Antarctica. It was 4 days of travel just to get to Antarctica.
However, it really was an experience of a lifetime!
To see the Antarctic landscape felt like being in a screensaver. To hear Antarctica was to experience a silence and calmness I’ve never thought was possible. To see penguins was to see little creatures that are absolutely the cutest things I’ve ever witnessed.
Our creative crew was also the best. I had hoped it would feel like friends getting together to create cool content and that’s exactly what it was.
We had Dan, the New UK man — Lead creative/rep for HX.
Kristian, the Chill Norwegian — Drone pilot/video guy.
Will, the Witty Englishman — Production manager.
Mangus, the Smooth Swede — Model.
Martina, the Gentle German — Model.
And myself, the Seasick Canadian — Photographer/videographer
MAIN OBJECTIVE
HX has a massive database of wildlife and scenic content, but needed more photos with people showcasing the experience onboard and specifically within the various suites.
