Filming YouTube Car Content with Brantford Kia

The original Fast and Furious came out right as I was getting my driver’s license, so I’ve had the car tuner bug ever since (the Honda s2000 was my baby).

And this year I’ve been thinking: “Why don’t I shoot more car related content?”

As I start to reach out to local car dealerships and car related brands, I thought about how I would get great car content for my portfolio and that’s when I came across the super talented Charlotte and Gabi from Brantford Kia.

These girls are amaaaaazing at presenting and they’ve successfully grown Brantford Kia’s YouTube channel to 132,000 subscribers in only a few years.

I reached out to them to create a few YouTube content pieces for their channel — a test drive video of the Kia EV9, a video podcast episode, and a quick tour of the dealership.

The shoot day was a blast, the results from the video have exceeded my expectations, and the feedback from the audience has been an ego boost! haha! See the comments below.

To give you context, the girls have been filming on an iPhone, posting about one edited video a week, and have been going Live daily almost every day at 2pm.

They credit their YouTube growth to their consistency (the Live sessions) and although they haven’t tracked it, they do notice a lot of clients who come in mention they’ve seen them on YouTube.

Overall, their YouTube efforts have been worth it for their dealership in bringing in foot traffic, but also as another revenue stream from YouTube ads (they do well).

I personally like YouTube since longer content can be monetized and allows you to get more in-depth, which allows you to educate or explain your product/service much better than a 1 minute clip on other platforms.

Clips from the YouTube video can also be spliced up and repurposed on Instagram or TikTok as well.

With the Kia EV9 video, it was so great to see how well the audience received the increased in production quality and to have the video perform over 300% better than their average video (in terms of views), was a huge success to me.

Gear

Cameras: Main camera was my rigged out Sony FX3. For the in car shots, my Sony A7IV was suction mounted to the windshield.

Lenses: Sigma 28-70mm 2.8 and Tamron 20-40mm were the only lenses used that day.

Audio: Sennheiser MKE600 on camera, Hollyland Lark M2 wireless mics into Zoom F2, and 2 Rode Podmics into a Tascam DR40x for the podcasting video.

Have a look at the videos and stats below to see how the results from the content day. If you want to learn more about monthly social media packages, click here.

Cheers!

The increase in production quality was noticed!

On average, they get about 3-4k views per video in the first week, so to see over 16k was awesome!

These "Trunk Talks" are YouTube videos, but they also turn these into podcasts. I brought my podcasting gear to improve the audio quality and make things a touch more professional.

I saw many requests to see the dealership and for local clients, they want to see the space. It builds trust and makes things more approachable.
